Boy's Room Makeover (Part 1): The Art Work

The month of May holds a fun DIY project for me — to makeover my son, Parker's bedroom.

My to-do list includes:

I'm done the first thing on the list, so that's a start!

While we were on our epic summer vacation last summer, we picked up some memorabilia with Parker's room decor in mind.

We got these coasters in Cars Land at Disneyland & the Lego minifigures at Legoland (you'll see them below).

After picking up some frames from Michael's, I simply backed the openings with cardstock, then mounted these coasters on with some permanent adhesive squares.

Framing the Lego mini figures was a bit trickier, just because it involved some trial & error before it worked.

I started with a shadowbox frame.

I had to use some adhesive foam to pop them out a bit because the heads of the figures didn't sit flush with the bodies.

After the foam, I stuck them on with a temporary adhesive square. That didn't last long... the figures started falling off within a few hours.

I went back to Michael's & bought some permanent adhesive squares (By 3M - available in the framing section) & tried those.

They worked like a charm & it's still holding strong!

Stay tuned for more boy room projects in the month of May!

  8. Thanks so much!

If your boys aren't into Star Wars, you could use any kind of Lego mini figure. There are so many different collections now not to mention the single mini figures a person can buy. :)

  9. I love the shadow boxes you created, great personalized art that brings in your son's interests!
