Don't Hide Layout {My Mind's Eye}

  As I mentioned on Monday, last weekend my daughter & I had the house to ourselves & we did quite a bit of crafting. This is one of the layouts I was able to complete.

  I used mostly My Mind's Eye products from the Stella & Rose line.

You may be interested to know that the photo I used for this layout was from a trip to the farmer's market last fall.

To add a bit of extra bling to the page, I layered the crystal on top of the chipboard button on top of the letter "o" in "don't". It helps create a visual triangle. Not sure what I mean? Check out the whole layout above. See the 3 places I used crystals in the layout? They form a visual triangle which is pleasing to the eye.

This "So Happy" sticker is pre-made so all the work is done for you! Just peel & stick!

One Month Until Disney! Disneyland Layout {Echo Park}

Have you gone of a trip yet this summer? We leave on our big Disneyland trip one month away from today!!  We are beyond excited!
To celebrate & to kick off our vacation scrapbook, I did a pre-made page that I'll add a 5x7 photo to as well as some journalling when we get home & have some of our photos printed.

I have never done this kind of pre-made page before, so this was kind of wild. I usually work off of the photos I plan to use as to the colours of the page & products I use, but because I had no photos to work off of, I had free reign to do whatever I wanted! I figured that I could always print a photo in black & white if the colours of the photo I want to use doesn't work with the layout.

I had Mickey & Minnie in mind when I started this layout.
The red & white polka dot paper & letters are just like Minnie's dress, right?

The jewels I used in the centre of the canvas flowers are actually little Mickey's!

Supplies Used:
  • Cardstock - Bazzill Basics
  • Patterned Paper - Echo Park (dots) & Sandy Lion (Mickey Mouse)
  • Canvas Flowers - Making Memories
  • Mickey Jewels - EK Success
  • Ribbon - unknown
  • Chipboard Letters - American Crafts
  • Scallop Punch - Stampin' Up!
The countdown is on!

Enjoy your day!

Favourite Son Layout {My Mind's Eye}

  It's not very often that I do a boy themed layout in pinks & butterflies. :) In fact, I think I could safely say I've never done this before. But since I'm also in the photo & the colours in the photo worked to nicely with these papers, I figured "why not?"

Again, using co-ordinating products, this page came together quickly.
It really takes a lot of the guess work out of this hobby.

Products Used:
  • Patterned Papers - My Mind's Eye
  • Stickers - My Mind's Eye
  • Journalling Tag - My Mind's Eye
  • Alphabet Stickers - My Mind's Eye
  • Chipboard Alphabet - American Crafts

It's Friday, Friday!! Any special plans this weekend?

Whatever you're doing, enjoy!

Fisherman Layout {Basic Grey}

In honour of Father's Day coming up, I want to show you a layout I did featuring some photos of my dear husband.

He loves all things outdoors. Fishing, hunting, hiking, canoeing... I wanted to capture some of the photos we took the last time we went fishing together.

This simple layout came together very quickly. Because the patterned papers are all from the same line, they were easy to co-ordinate.

Then I added my title which is chipboard with a felt type finish.

To finish it off, I attached 3 corduroy brads to the edges of the paper strips.

Products Used:
  • Patterned Paper - Basic Grey
  • Chipboard Letters - My Mind's Eye
  • Corduroy Brads - Stampin' Up!
Another fast, fun layout!

Enjoy your day!

Summer Layout {My Mind's Eye}

There's something about this colour combo that just screams "SUMMER!" to me.
Orange & turquoise... the colours of afternoon sunshine, orange popcicles, open water, & clear sky.

The perfect colour combo for a cheery summer layout featuring my son.

  This is one of my favourite layouts of late. And because I used papers from a single line it made co-ordinating the patterns a breeze (like a summer breeze). ;)

I used my Cricut & a couple circle punches to get all the different circle sizes.

Usually I do my journalling by hand. Mostly because it's faster for me. This time, I was trying to get out of my normal scrapping routine, so I typed up my journalling in plain old Times New Roman
(way faster than searching for the "perfect" font for what would turn into hours),
making sure I double spaced the sentences.
I printed it out onto white cardstock, trimmed it into strips, & adhered to fit in with the circle pattern.

  I also love how the title turned out. I wanted to use these letters that I had in my stash & had kind of forgotten about, but there wasn't room to line them up in a row. I pop-dotted every other letter to make a layered effect. Love it!

Supplies Used:

  • Patterned paper - My Mind's Eye Fine & Dandy line
  • Corrugated letters - Jillibean Soup
  • Small letter stickers - Basic Grey
  • Felt stars - Pebbles
  • Flair Badge - American Crafts
  • White cardstock - Bazzill Basics
  • Font - Times New Roman

What have you been working on lately?

Catching Up

I'm kind of laughing at the title of this post...
Is anyone EVER completely "caught up" when it comes to scrapbooking?

Oy.

I continually have to remind myself that this is a hobby & it's supposed to be fun.
I don't have to be caught up... ever. I chose this hobby & it's a part of my life to be a creative outlet, not a burden.

With that in mind, here are a couple of layouts I accomplished at the recent scrapbook fundraiser I was at last month:

Vintage Layout:
  • All supplies by My Mind's Eye

First Day of School Layout:
  • Cardstock - Bazzill Basics
  • Patterned Paper - Basic Grey (Oxford collection)
  • Tag - Simple Stories
  • Stickers - October Afternoon
  • Alphabet stickers - Making Memories & American Crafts

How do you treat your creative hobbies? Do you ever feel like you're behind & try desperately to catch up?
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

Enjoy your day!

Crafty Thoughts & Mountain Layouts

  I have to admit something to you.

  I like to make crafts. Oh, you knew that already? Ya, I figured. :) I'm what you'd call "a crafter".

  I also believe that a crafter doesn't have to be holed up into one specific kind of crafting. Not sure what I mean?

  Well, when I started this blog I just wanted to share the stuff I made, created, & decorated. After I did just a bit of searching on other crafter's blogs, I noticed that not many crafters were scrapbookers or card makers. And if they were, they often didn't share their paper crafts on their blogs. The same went for the paper crafters out there. Scrapbook layouts or cards were pretty much all you found on their blogs. It's almost like "someone out there" determined that a blogger couldn't share more than one genre of craft on a given blog.

  After I noticed this, I started to feel pressured (albeit a self-inflicted pressure) to make more generalized crafts & keep my paper crafts to myself. But after a few months of "hiding", I'm ready to throw caution to the wind & just be me! I have come to the realization that I can have several different crafting interests & I can celebrate them all!

  Lesson leaned.

  Am I the only one who has felt this way?

  I want to encourage you to stop hiding your talents & let them ALL shine! The world has something to benefit from what you have to bring to the table. Even if it's just a smile. :)

~~~
I'm still working on scrapping last summer's photos. I'm getting very close to finishing. Here's some of the pages from our summer vacation to Jasper National Park in Alberta.
I used a lot of Bo Bunny for these layouts. I'm in love with the wood grain paper!
Go celebrate the talents that God put in you.
Enjoy your day!
